Wildwood man jailed after dog attacks child on beach
A Wildwood dog owner is in jail after his dog bit an 11-year-old boy on the beach Friday morning. The Bridgewater boy suffered extensive injuries when the dog bit him in the face, according to police. The dog’s owner left the scene, but turned himself in with his attorney after photos of him were released by Wildwood police. John Kalin, 28, was walking the dog when he approached the boy and his family, according to the report. After asking if he could pet the dog, the victim approached the dog who then leapt forward and bit him on the face, police said. The handler fled with the dog as family members realized how severely he was injured and called 911, according to the report. Surveillance video from multiple sources along with multiple tips from the public led to Kalin being identified, police said. Kalin then turned himself in with his attorney. He was charged with violation of law intended to protect public health and safety, a third-degree crime, as well as various local ordinance violations pertaining to having his dog on the beach. Under bail reform guidelines, the charge was placed on a warrant and Kalin was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center.
