An Egg Harbor Township Home Depot worker was pepper sprayed Sunday, after he confronted a shoplifting suspect. Stephen Krajci, 62, of Philadelphia, allegedly tried to take more than $500 worth of merchandise from the store in the township’s McKee City section, when the unnamed loss prevention officer confronted him, Lt. Heath Per said. Krajci then pepper sprayed the officer and fled in a white Toyota 4Runner with a Pennsylvania license plate, according to the report. An off-duty Ocean City police officer witnessed the incident, and gave responding officers a description of the vehicle and license plate number, Per said. The off-duty officer, whose name was not released, followed the vehicle until township police were able to catch up and stop it., according to the report. Krajci was charged with robbery, assault and weapons offenses, and was sent to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
Note: The Atlantic County Justice Facility no longer provides mugshots to the media, citing the Atlantic County prosecutor’s order. The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office says it’s part of the Attorney General’s Guidelines. There is no such guideline, according to the Attorney General’s Office, but they have told these offices for years that they should not release any photos that appear to be mugshots.
