Atlantic City police arrest two armed men in one day in separate incidents
Atlantic City police seized two guns Thursday. Detectives Garry Stowe and Avette Harper were doing surveillance in the 1700 block of Atlantic Avenue, after merchants complained about drug dealing there, Sgt. Kevin Fair said. They saw Ernest Thompson in a drug deal with an unknown woman, according to the report. When they stopped Thomas, they found a loaded handgun and 40 bags of marijuana inside his vehicle. Thompson, 22, was arrested without incident, and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute, possession within 500 feet of a public zone, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon while committing a drug offense. The woman was not located. That night Dontez James caught the attention of Officers Jeffrey Profitt and Irwin Sanchez when cars had to swerve to avoid hitting him as he walked into Pacific Avenue, Fair said. When they approached James, he appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to the report. The officers found he had active warrants, and also was carrying a loaded handgun, Fair said. The 34-year-old Pleasantville man was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and contempt of court warrants. Both men were taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Anyone with information about illegal activity is asked to call police at 609-347-5766 or Crimes Stoppers at 609-652-1234.
